2018-08-18 Captain's Day report

Austin Crawford was proud to hold his Captain’s Day at Kilkeel Golf Club on Saturday 18th August with the first players teeing off early at 6 o’clock. The competition was played over 27 holes in excellent weather, with 9 holes in the morning and a further 18 in the afternoon punctuated by a break in the middle where delicious bacon baps were served up by Vice-Captain, Shane Lowey.  The 18 holes started at 9.30 with the Captain’s Guests teeing off first followed by all competitors. Timings turned out to be perfect with the last players completing their rounds at 7.45pm.  A delicious dinner was available for everyone and was ably prepared and served by Doc’s of Newcastle.

When the prize giving ceremony got underway the Captain opened the proceedings by thanking a number of folk for their help. First of all he thanked Declan Fitzpatrick (immediate Past Captain) for the opportunity to be Captain of the club, the Captain then thanked his wife Mary and family for their support, the Greens Convenor and staff for the excellent condition of the course and Emma and her staff for the efficient bar service. He also mentioned Conall Kerr (Match and Handicaps convenor) and his team for getting the results through quickly and paid tribute to the club’s newly appointed Professional, Angela Kilmartin, who was in the shop from 5.30 getting cards prepared in time for the first golfers teeing off. In addition he thanked Ruth in the office, the Hon. Secretary and Treasurer for all their hard work behind the scenes and Florence who looks after the clubhouse with such efficiency.
