The Cowdy Senior Cup Team hosted Mannan Castle on the return leg of their 1st round match. A great result was achieved there with a 10/10 draw and so it remained to be seen if the team could make home advantage pay and proceed to the next round. The format of this competition is 5 singles matches.
The team was led out by Paul McCullagh. This was a high quality encounter with the opposition player birdieing 4 out of the first 6 holes and Paul under pressure being 4 down after 10 holes. However Paul produced a great back nine halving 11 and winning 12, 13 (with an eagle chip in from 92 yards!), 14, 15 & 16, leaving the Mannan Castle player having to birdie the last to square the match. A fitting end to one of the best matches seen at Kilkeel with a total of 10 birdies and an eagle between the pair.
Next up for Kilkeel was our own Head Greenkeeper Aidan Donnelly. Aidan established an early lead which he never let go to run out a 4&3 winner
Big hitting Glenn Whyte again established an early lead and never looked in trouble winning also 4&3
Fourth up was the Joint Team Captain James McCulla. James also established an early lead and won by 4&2
Last up was Mark Trainor who followed the pattern of the preceding matches and was winning before Mannan Castle conceded the match and called it in early
A great performance by the Team who ended up as 28-12 winners
Next up is either Tandragee or Lurgan
Thanks to Team Captains Robert & James for their efforts arranging the Team and Matches
