2022-06-19 Sam Rutherford progress to next round.
Sam Rutherford 2nd leg v Edenmore at Kilkeel.
Following last week’s match at Edenmore, Frank Reilly’s Sam Rutherford team took an 11 point lead into the home leg. Availability necessitated a few team changes however the new faces were up to the task and resulted in a win at the end of the day.
First out was Vice-Captain Paschal Morgan with a new partner in the experienced Leslie Edgar. They battled hard but were 3 down at the turn. A fighting solid back nine resulted in a win by 2 holes to extend the lead.
Second out Bobby Watts with Robert Stewart. They were all square after ten but on a difficult day and with 6 bogeys on the back nine ended up 6 down
Charlie Houston and Louis Poland who had a fantastic 8 hole win last weekend kept it tight for most of the match and won 3 up.
Finally James Hanna and David English were in the anchor match. Things didn’t look good after James lost the head from his 5 iron from the first tee shot. This was a further blow for James who had lost the head of his six iron during the week! However, they gelled well together and were called in after being level on 16 when the match was declared in Kilkeel’s favour.
Next round will be either Loughgall or Cloverhill
