Saturday 25th June was a special day at Kilkeel Golf club when Robert Hall hosted his Captain’s Day. Some inclement weather in the early morning gave way to a blustery but bright day and 173 golfers trode the fairways throughout the day. Each group were greeted by the Captain on the first tee and given ‘goodie’ bags to enjoy their rounds. The conditions led to challenging scoring with only 3 players scoring over 36 points. Top of the pile was young Shane McDowell playing off 25 who scored a magnificent 42 points. Brendan Gallagher continued his recent good form to come in second with 39 and Stephen McDowell made third with 37. Gross was won by Paul McCullagh with 78. Martin Trimble won nearest the pin on the 11th and the back 9 with 21 points and Cyril Johnston won the front nine with 20 points.
The Ladie’s prize was won by Anne Macauley with Jane Coffey second and Diane McDowell third.

An enjoyable evening with a dinner hosted by the Captain and then the presentation of prizes. The large number of attendees danced the night away into the early hours.
