2022-08-28 Sam Rutherford team through to final!!!

This afternoon saw the Sam Rutherford team take on Killymoon in the second leg of their semi-final having gained a 4 hole advantage from the first encounter last week.
First out was the unbeaten experienced duo of Leslie Edgar and Paschal Morgan. They found the going tough and though they were 2 down after 6, they fought back to all square after 9. The visitors played steadily on the way in and were 2up after 16 but Paschal and Leslie continued to compete and ended the match just the 1 down.
Second out was the new pairing of David Atkinson and Louis Poland. They were also 2 down in the early stages but came back to be all square at the turn. They were 1 up at 13 but the Cookstown men won 14 and ended up with a halved match at the end.
Match 3 was the turning point when Ryan Donnelly and Bobby Watts turned on the style to win 5 up. They actually lost the first but played the remainder of the front 9 in level par to turn 4 up. A steady back 9 saw them winning 14 to go 5 up and that’s the way it was at the end.
Match 4 saw last week’s big winners, James Hanna and Stephen McDowell together again and even though they were all square after 6, they turned at 1 down and never really got back on level terms finishing out the match at 2 down.
So the match was won by 6 holes and sees the team safely into the final to play Omagh (again home and away) who defeated Silverwood.
Congratulations and well done to Captain Frank Reilly and the boys and we look forward to supporting them for the final showdown.
It was a special birthday present for Club Captain Robert Hall who was on hand to support the team all the way round
