Glenn Whyte’s Junior Cup team took on Lurgan last Saturday. With home advantage for the team of 5, there were 3 at home games and 2 away. The criteria is flat game matchplay singles with the lowest Handicap Index last year of no less than 2.5. It was the home players who did the damage with Richard Graham, Mark Trainor and James McCulla all winning at home. Joe McKnight and Ryan Donnelly battled hard away at Lurgan but both came up short against two accomplished golfers. James McCulla won the deciding game with a tight encounter against former Kilkeel member Brian Speers. Thanks to all who gave support both home and away, particularly Richard Doran and President Paul McKibbin who walked the fairways at a damp Lurgan. So it’s Banbridge up next with home advantage again, sure to be another tough encounter.
