Dominic Fitzpatrick’s Pierce Purcell team played Royal Belfast today in their first round match. Since Kilkeel were the away team, three pairs travelled to Royal Belfast and two were at home for this foursomes encounter. In the away matches Charlie Crozier & Justin Bonner lost 4&3, Robin McCullough & Roy Boyd lost on the 18th and Dominic Fitzpatrick & Vincent Boden lost on the 19th. At home Eric Nicholson & Ryan Trainor won two and one while Shane Lowey and Gordon Johnston were called in when dormy two up with two to play. As can be seen, home advantage played a part for the Royal Belfast teams, but a great effort resulted in very close matches, however KGC came out just on the wrong side of this result.
