2023-09-29 Lady President’s Day

Lady President Diane McDowell’s special day at Mourne Park, Kilkeel Golf Club.

The week started with a tornado sweeping up the Leestone Road, storm Agness then started to threaten closing the course during the week and we were beginning to worry about what lay ahead for Lady President’s Day.

Worry not, Friday morning sun greeted us, the forecast was good as we looked forward to a lovely day ahead. Lady President Diane welcomed us, wished us a good round of golf and gave all competitors ‘goody bags’ before we headed out to play. The course was challenging, but those on form played well and returned decent scores. Tempting afternoon tea in the clubhouse was enjoyed by all.

In the evening, the Penny Wall restaurant seved delicious meals to Diane’s guests and members. Lady Captain Kathleen Sloan proposed a vote of thanks to the Lady President and thanked her for her meticulous detail in planning her special day. Diane thanked all those who helped make this day so special for her and stated it was an honour to be the Lady President and follow in her mother’s footsteps who was a former Lady President.

The overall winner was Marion Russell with 34 points, Catherine Quinn won category two with 31 points and Linda Moorhead won category three with 28 points.
