29th June 2024 – Captain’s Day competition and prize giving.

Last weekend saw the Captain (Mr Robin McCullough) hosting his special competition. 191 members competed for the prizes and although scoring around the course was difficult, an exceptional round came out on top.
It was Michael Steenson playing off a handicap of 23, who has been in great form of late who held it together with 21 points on the front and a mammoth 27 points on the back nine for a total of 48 points. Aidan Donnelly (our Head Greenkeeper) shot level par for 42 points and second place while Stephen McGuffin playing off 33 came third with 39 points with a better back 9 from 3 others.
John Pat Trainor followed up his recent competition win with the best front 9 score and the ever improving Finbar Jennings lifted the back 9 prize.

The ladies competed for the Captain’s prize on Tuesday and it was Linda Quinn who who had a fantastic score of 44 points to win overall. Past Captain Kathleen Sloan came second with 41 and Linda Moorhead 3rd with 40 points. Grainne Killen’s consistency captured the gross prize with lady Vice Captain Ann Marie Higgins winning the back 9 and Cynthia Cranston the front 9.

Once again the course was presented in magnificent condition for all competitors and a great clubhouse atmosphere was complimented in the evening by music from our own John Harrison.

Message from Captain:-

To all members, family and friends.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your kind donations to me for my chosen Charity during the Captain’s week competitions.

It was with much pleasure that I was able to hand over on Saturday 6th July the amazing amount of £3275.20p to representatives from Newry Hospice (who were very thankful to me for choosing them as my charity)

Thank you all again very much.

Robin
