2025-06-28 Captain’s Day

Last weekend saw the Captain (Mr Frank Reilly) hosting his special competition. 203 Entrants competed for the prizes and consistent scoring was required around the difficult setting.
It was Cormac Smyth playing off a handicap of 14 who just managed to pip Finbar Jennings on countback to first prize both having 37 points. Keelan Campbell (who had requested to be out early as he was jetting off in the afternoon to Portugal for his wedding (!!!) ) claimed third place while the ever reliable Paul McCullagh shot 75 to win the gross prize.
Thomas Poland claimed the front 9 with 19 points while another 19 was good enough for the back 9 prize for Stephen Patterson. Hayden Sloan won the 5 day/junior prize with 35 and Club President Victor Quinn claimed nearest the pin with 4 feet, 11 and a half inches.

The ladies competed for the Captain’s prize on Tuesday and it was Lorna Orr  who who had a fantastic score of 40 points to win overall. Kathleen Sloan came second with 39 and Adrianne McCullough was 3rd also with points. The 9 hole competition on the day was won by Shirley Edgar with 20 points.

Once again the course was presented in magnificent condition for all competitors and a great clubhouse atmosphere was evident for the prize giving in the evening.

The Captain’s chosen charity for 2025 was the Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke.
This worthwhile cause is dear to the Captain’s ‘heart’ as they work with people of all ages across the country, delivering vital care and prevention services, supporting ground-breaking research and campaigning for change.
Today, as many as 470,000 people in Northern Ireland are living with a chest, heart or stroke condition and NICHS are committed to supporting them.
All donations to this worthy cause were greatly appreciated.
